Yellow nutsedge is a persistent perennial that reproduces by small tubers, hence the name "nutgrass". Tubers are produced underground, often in chains that resemble a rope with knots tied in it every inch or so. The stems are triangular and emerge in groups of three and have grass-like, pale yellow leaves. Spreads primarily by underground tubers produced at end of rhizomes. Pale yellow or brownish flowers produced in spikelets. The plant grows erect, from 12 to 18 inches tall.
